Speech Therapy
Speech and Language Therapy for Kids in Dubai
The moment you start wondering whether your child’s speech is on track, something shifts. You find yourself listening differently at playgrounds, comparing quietly at birthday parties, replaying conversations with your pediatrician on the drive home. Most parents do not arrive at a speech therapy clinic because a checklist told them to. They arrive because something felt worth checking out, and they finally decided to act on it.
If that is where you are, you are in good company. At Next Level Speech and Physiotherapy Center, Dubai, pediatric speech and language therapy is at the heart of what we do. We work with children from infancy through to their teenage years, across a wide range of communication needs, and we work alongside families every step of the way.
What Pediatric Speech Therapy Actually Covers
Speech therapy for children is a much broader field than most parents realize when they first look into it. It is not only about pronunciation or getting rid of a stutter. It covers the full range of how children develop communication — understanding language, expressing themselves, producing sounds clearly, connecting with others socially, and even feeding and swallowing in younger children.

Some children come to us with a single, specific concern. Others have a more complex profile involving several areas at once. Some are diagnosed with a condition that affects communication. Others simply have a delay that needs some targeted support to get moving. We see all of these, and we approach each child as an individual rather than fitting them into a standard program.
Speech and language development does not happen in isolation. It connects to confidence, to learning, to friendships, and to how a child sees themselves. When we support a child’s communication, we are often supporting far more than their speech.
Children We Work With
Our pediatric speech therapy team works with children across a wide range of presentations. The conditions and areas we assess and treat include:
- Speech and language delay, for children whose communication is developing later than expected or not progressing as it should
- Late talkers, young children with limited words but no other identified developmental concerns
- Articulation disorders, where specific sounds are consistently mispronounced beyond the typical age of correction
- Phonological disorders, where patterns of sound errors affect a child’s overall clarity and intelligibility
- Stuttering and fluency disorders, supporting children who repeat sounds, get stuck on words, or are beginning to avoid speaking
- Autism and social communication difficulties, including AAC support for children who need communication tools beyond spoken language
- Down syndrome, with therapy tailored to each child’s stage of development and specific communication needs
- Cerebral palsy, where motor and communication complexities are addressed together
- Childhood apraxia of speech, a motor speech disorder that requires a specialized and intensive approach
- Selective mutism, supporting children who are verbal at home but consistently silent in other settings
- Tongue tie, including post-procedure therapy where tongue mobility is affecting speech or feeding
- Feeding and swallowing difficulties, supporting safe feeding and mealtime confidence in younger children
- Bilingual and multilingual speech delay, distinguishing true delay from the normal process of acquiring more than one language
- Early intervention for children aged zero to three, where support has the greatest developmental impact
- School-age language and literacy difficulties, for children struggling with reading, writing, comprehension, or classroom communication
Each of these has its own dedicated page with detailed information on signs to watch for, how assessment works, and what therapy involves. If you already know what you are looking for, you can go straight there. If you are not sure yet, keep reading and then get in touch.
How We Work With Children
Children are not small adults, and pediatric speech therapy is not a scaled-down version of adult therapy. The way we work is built entirely around how children actually learn, which is through play, interaction, relationship, and repetition embedded in meaningful activity.
From the very first session, we prioritize building a connection with the child. A child who feels comfortable with their therapist will engage more freely, try harder, and retain more. We never rush this stage, even when clinical targets are pressing.
Assessment is thorough but not clinical in feel. For young children, especially, most of what we learn comes through observation and natural interaction rather than formal testing. We watch how a child plays, how they communicate with us and with a parent in the room, and how they respond to different types of interaction. We also use standardized tools appropriate for the child’s age and presentation.
We always involve parents in the assessment conversation, because you bring context that no test can replicate. What your child is like at home, how they communicate with siblings, what has changed recently, what worries you most — all of this shapes our clinical picture.
After assessment, we give you a clear, honest summary of what we found. If therapy is recommended, we explain exactly what it will target, what it will look like, and what realistic progress might involve. We do not use jargon, and we do not give vague reassurance.
The Role of Parents and Family
Pediatric speech therapy works best when it extends beyond the therapy room. Children who have consistent support at home, from parents who understand what is being worked on and why, progress faster and more sustainably than those whose therapy exists only in sessions.
This is not about adding pressure to an already busy family life. It is about small, practical strategies woven into things you are already doing — bathtime, meals, the school run, bedtime stories. We make these strategies specific, achievable, and tailored to your child’s current level.
We explain what we are targeting in each session, why it matters, and how you can support it at home. We welcome questions, and we adjust the guidance as your child progresses. Involvement does not require expertise. It requires consistency and warmth, both of which you already have.
A Clinic That Understands Dubai Families
Dubai is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse cities in the world, and the families we see reflect that. Many of our clients are raising children in two, three, or even four languages. Many are navigating an assessment process in a language that is not their strongest. Many have moved from other countries and are accessing speech therapy services for the first time.
Our team is multilingual and experienced in working across many cultural backgrounds. We understand that bilingual children develop differently from monolingual peers, and we assess appropriately for that. We also understand the particular stress that comes with parenting in a new country, far from the extended family support that might otherwise be available.
Whatever your background or situation, you will be treated with respect, given honest information, and supported practically throughout the process.
What Families Tell Us
Parents often tell us they wish they had come sooner. Not because early assessment always reveals a serious problem, but because knowing is better than wondering. An assessment that comes back with no concerns is genuinely reassuring. One that identifies a need gives you a starting point, and starting points are valuable.
We also hear regularly from parents who were told to wait and see, sometimes for a year or more, before seeking support. Sometimes waiting is appropriate. Often it is not. If your instinct is telling you something is worth looking into, we would rather you came in and got a clear answer than spent another few months in uncertainty.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I know if my child needs speech therapy? The clearest indicators are a gap between your child’s communication and what is typical for their age, difficulty being understood by people outside the family, frustration linked to communication, or a specific concern raised by a teacher or pediatrician. If something feels off, an assessment is always a reasonable step. It gives you information, and information is more useful than uncertainty.
- What age do you start seeing children? We work with children from infancy. Early intervention for children under three is one of the most impactful forms of speech therapy support, because the early years are when language development is most rapid and most responsive to input. There is no minimum age for a concern to be worth raising with us.
- Do you only see children with diagnosed conditions? No. Many of the children we see have no formal diagnosis. They simply have a delay, a difficulty, or a pattern of errors that needs attention. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral letter to book an assessment with us.
- How long does a pediatric speech therapy assessment take? Most assessments take between 45 minutes and an hour and a half, depending on the child’s age and the complexity of the concern. We allow enough time to observe, interact, complete standardized tasks where appropriate, and have a proper conversation with you about what we have found.
- What happens after the assessment? We share our findings clearly and in plain language. If therapy is recommended, we explain what it will target, how often sessions should happen, and what realistic progress might look like. If we feel another specialist should be involved, we will tell you and help guide that process.
- My child has already been assessed in another country. Do you need to reassess? We will always want to conduct our own assessment to get a current picture, though previous reports are helpful context and we will review them carefully. Children’s needs change over time, and an assessment done a year or two ago may not reflect where your child is now.
- How involved will I be in my child’s therapy? Very involved, and intentionally so. We brief parents after every session on what was covered and what to practice at home. We provide written guidance and welcome questions at any point. You are not expected to be a therapist, but your involvement between sessions has a significant effect on how your child progresses.
- Is speech therapy covered by insurance in Dubai? Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and plan. We recommend checking directly with your insurer before booking. We can provide documentation to support insurance claims where needed.
